# CSS

The CSS pipeline has compiled site styles since version 0.9.0. Each `[[css]]` entry names an engine and an input file. Output is fingerprinted. Templates include it with `{{ stylesheet() }}`.

input = "sass/style.sass"
```

`engine` is `sass`, `tailwind`, or `css`.

- `sass` compiles in-process with grass. No Node.
- `tailwind` runs the standalone `tailwindcss` binary. `benson build` fails with an install hint when that binary is missing.
- `css` minifies hand-written CSS with Lightning CSS. There is no Node step.

`output` is optional. It sets the filename stem. Sources may live anywhere `input` points. In development the watcher follows those paths.

`[asset_pipeline]` with `enabled = true` fingerprints CSS, JavaScript, and other static assets and rewrites the URLs templates ask for.
